In our series profiling the artists behind the Sounds of Southampton Vol2, today we meet LawZzy

SoCo: Hey there. First off, can you please tell us your name and track title

LawZzy: Yes, sure, I’m LawZzy and the track is called “One Day”

SoCo: Great, thanks. And what have you learned through being involved in the project?

LawZzy: That working as a community/collective can have a bigger impact than just making a name for a single artist or influencer. It also shows our city has lots of talent that’s not being heard and a big reason for that is [that it’s hard] financing your own career studio time, music videos etc.

SoCo: How has being part of the project has helped you express yourself through your music, or develop your music?

LawZzy: It gave me a big platform to release my first single. I’ve got so much material but like I said financing things can be tricky. Working with Local2Global gave me the stepping stones I needed to get to where I am and being giving opportunities like this one is an example of hard work paying off. It’s important to keep your head down and get the studio sessions done, find time every week to put effort into your career as well as working full time.

SoCo: What impact has this project had on your wellbeing, your emotional state?

LawZzy: Honestly I was so ecstatic seeing myself on BBC south it felt like a huge step in my career and definitely one in the direction in which I want to be headed.

SoCo: Has the project helped you feel more focused, more motivated?

LawZzy: Yes definitely if anything, it calmed my head about whether or not I was being heard and/or doing enough to push my music career. It motivated me to push harder because it really is worth it!

SoCo: What other thoughts or ideas or feedback do you have about the project as a whole?

LawZzy: Honestly it’s a brilliant opportunity to expose the city’s underrated talent. We have so many amazing artists from all generations and it’s so generous that we were given this chance to prove ourselves asw ell as get exposure. I hope to see the album be released every year with new artists being added each year. I really think this is the beginning of a very big thing.

SoCo: What will your next step be?

LawZzy: Continuing to push forward and progress myself as an artist. Just keep doing what I do basically, so hitting the studio, meeting with my team to discuss ideas and current/future projects. I also will be releasing my music video for “One Day” some time this month so keep an eye out for that!

SoCo: We can’t wait to see that! Best of luck with it all LawZzy and thanks!
