WHAT IS IT?

SO: Let’s talk about music is short and sweet opportunity to bring Southampton’s music community together to talk about the future. Your time is precious, so in two and a half hours we will have short inspiring panel talks with leading figures from the city’s music industry, hear from you about how we can make more of the music scene, and decide how we can work together to make it happen.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Musicians, agents, managers, promoters,  music teachers, venues, rehearsal and recording studios, engineers and techies, DJs, Bhangra bands and bassoonists  – anyone who is actively  involved in the city’s music scene. Whatever music you make, or whatever you do, this is for you.

We are holding the event twice – afternoon and evening to cater for working hours in the music sector.

WHY?

Southampton has reached the last eight if the UK City of Culture contest and with our music history, and today’s diverse music community, music should be at the very front of our bid. But we also need to come back from a pandemic, and build up the music sector for the future.

Over the last two years, issues such as European touring, COVID, saving venues, and streaming, the UK music sector has formed alliances to create a voice, provide mutual support and build the strength to protect and develop the sector to achieve the recognition it deserves. In some other cities, people involved in the music sector are seeing the benefits of working together and having a voice.

We want this for Southampton – collaboration to make this a city known for, and proud of, it’s thriving music sector across all its communities. Join us and let’s get started.

If you can’t make it – we still want to hear from you. Send us a message of support to [email protected] to join our mailing list, and we will keep you in touch.

We shall be posting more about the event. Follow us on the Southampton Festivals Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts @sofests.
